How Do Things Work Best in Your Inspired Business? (Part 1)

(This is Part 1 in a five part series.)

Inspired Entrepreneurs* are practical day dreamers. We like to find out what works for our customers, our vendors, ourselves and our communities. We imagine how it could work best and then we test our ideas in the way we do business.

Recently I heard some principles which I believe are useful to Inspired Entrepreneurs in a talk by Senior YUI engineer Nate Koechley at Yahoo! Developer Network.

Now, keep in mind that Nate and his team are routinely standing back and looking at a mess that does not function as smoothly as they’d like for their customers. Nate and his team scratch their heads often about how it could work best.

Their primary goal is to Provide Stability. There are three supporting principles they use to smooth out the bumps and organize the chaos, without losing all the beautiful flair:

  • Normalize Differences
  • Solve Recurring Problems
  • Centrally Manage Complexity

Provide Stability in Your Business

“We want to make sure we are not building things on quicksand,
that things are predictable and dependable.”
- Nate Koechley

In business, stability is one of the marks of legitimacy and value.

How do you provide stability? What does your business integrity look like?

  • Regular business hours?
  • A quick response time?
  • A warrantee?
  • Someone answering the phone at any hour?
  • Paying your bills on time?

Upon whom or what do you rely to uphold your business stability?
Are there systems in place or are you winging it?
